Mumbai, June 29: Construction work in the Shendra-Bidkin node of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project is moving at a quick pace in Maharashtra, with the latest Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract awarded to L&T for building roads and underground utilities over 10 sq.km in the Bidkin Industrial Area.

Aurangabad Industrial Township Limited (AITL), the Special Purpose Company (SPC) set up as joint venture between the Governemnt of Maharashtra and the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), has issued the Letter of Award (LoA) for projects worth Rs 1,223 crore to L&T and the work will begin soon.

The Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) is a large-scale industrial cluster approximately 15 km from downtown Aurangabad and is 8 km east of the Aurangabad Airport. It is planned as a new industrial corridor extending from the existing Maharashtra Industrial Development CorporationÂ’s Shendra Industrial Park to the town of Bidkin.

SBIAÂ’s total area is 84.17 sq kms, with 41.42 sqkm being developed in the initial phase. Out of this, an area of 8.39 sqkm is located north of Jalna Road adjoining the existing MIDC Shendra Industrial Park and the remaining area of 32.03 sqkm is located near Bidkin.

Construction work is in full swing in Shendra, with all necessary approvals in place. AITL has already begun allotment of land for verious industrial and related activities in the proposed smart city.

For the Bidkin area, tender packages for various trunk infrastructure components for the selection of EPC contractors has been approved by the Govt. of India for Rs 6414.21 crore. All other necessary clearances including Environment Clearance has already been accorded by Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

The Government of Maharashtra has transferred the land to AITL, and NICDIT equity amounting to Rs 849.90 cr has been released. It is expected that all construction related activities will be completed by August 2019.
